A consultation allows both yourself and the personal trainer to meet each other before any services are undertaken; why is this important I hear you ask.
The relationship between a personal trainer and a client is a personal one. You both need to be able communicate effectively to one another, you both need to trust each other, you both must understand what motivates one another.
You will be working together as a team so by partaking in a consultation you both have the ability to decide if you feel you can work together. You wouldn’t want to work with a personal trainer who you didn’t have confidence in and likewise, a personal trainer won’t want to work with a client you they don’t believe will commit to the hard work that will be required.
A personal trainer will help you to:
- Get the most out of your training time
- Set goals to motivate you
- Break through plateaus
- Learn new skills
- Understand how to train effectively

A functional fitness then is a training principle that utilises functional exercises to address and enhance our ability to successfully complete these types of everyday tasks. In short functional exercise allows our bodies to perform the way in which they were engineered. Squats, push ups, pull ups, deadlifts, box jumps, broad jumps, running are but a few of the tools KickStartPt will use to get you functionally fit.
Because it involves briefly pushing yourself beyond the upper end of your aerobic exercise zone, it offers you several advantages that traditional steady-state exercise (where you keep your heart rate within your aerobic zone) can’t provide:
- High Intensity increases the amount of calories you burn during your exercise session and afterward because it increases the length of time it takes your body to recover from each exercise session.
- High Intensity causes metabolic adaptations that enable you to use more fat as fuel under a variety of conditions. This will improve your athletic endurance as well as your fat-burning potential.
- High Intensity appears to limit muscle loss that can occur with weight loss, in comparison to traditional steady-state cardio exercise of longer duration.
- High Intensity trains and conditions both your anaerobic and aerobic energy systems.
